Young People
The nurture and development of our young people is given great importance within the parish and in our planning. Young people are central to our Parish Plan.
St. Alban's Primary School
Our younger children of the parish are welcome to attend St. Alban's Primary School on Newstead Avenue at Chaddesden. Our primary school is an integral part of the parish and has children of many nationalities who are part of school life.
Our Parish Priest regularly takes part in school life, through Class and School Liturgies to Holy Day Masses held in school. Some members of our church are employed at St. Alban's School which has a positive benefit to the life and community which the children feel part of.
Children in year 3 are invited to take part in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion generally commences at the start of a new year, culminating in First Holy Communion Masses around the month of May each year.
Children's Liturgy Group
At our Sunday 10 am Mass we have Children's Liturgy Group. This group enables children to engage in 'Liturgy of the Word' which is targeted more effectively at the children's age groups. Parents are also able more effectively to participate in the Sunday Mass.
Secondary Schools
Generally our youth attend either St. Benedict or St. John Houghton secondary schools. Both schools are easily accessible and provide good quality education within a Christian environment.
During year 10 children are invited to take part in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. It is during this preparation that young people consider their own faith, its place within their lives and whether they wish to be be confirmed.
Youth Group
We have a thriving Youth Group which meets every other Wednesday outside of the summer holidays.
Child Protection Policy
Clearly with so much activity it is essential for the protection of children that we have a clear policy for their protection. For any activity within our church life the St. Alban's Child Protection Policy applies.
