The Church on Oakwood

The Church on Oakwood is formed out of a partnership between Anglican, Catholic, Methodist and United Reformed Churches. The Catholic congregation at Oakwood is served from St. Alban's.

A small group of Oakwood parishioners, namely The Oakwood Catholics Committee, meet several times a year to plan and review various aspects of church life. The present committee members are Sandra Endsor, Lavina Hodkinson, Sue Lewis, Eileen & Mike Ryan and Fran Wickes together with Fr Gerry Murphy, Parish Priest of St Alban’s. The Oakwood Catholic congregation is also represented on the St. Albans Parish Pastoral Council, thus ensuring a strong connection with our mother church and promoting good communication between the two.

In addition members of the Catholic congregation, including the Parish Priest of St Alban’s make up half of the Ecumenical Partnership group with members of the other Christian communities who worship here at Oakwood. This group meets regularly to plan and review the life of our ‘ecumenical community’.

We meet as an ecumenical congregation for our annual Christian Unity service, for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. We celebrate Harvest time together with a social get-together, we also collaborate in collecting produce for our local charities. At Christmas we celebrate together with a joint Carol Service.
